Morgan Stanley Discloses Initial Investments in XRP ETFs

Global financial institution Morgan Stanley has disclosed new positions in XRP-linked exchange-traded funds in its regulatory filings. The bank reported holding shares in two regulated XRP funds, valued at approximately $15,000. While the position represents a small fraction of the firm’s total portfolio, the disclosure reflects expanding institutional exposure to XRP investment products as market demand for regulated digital asset vehicles continues to grow.

Investment banking giant Morgan Stanley has revealed its first official investment exposure to XRP through regulated exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

The disclosure appeared in the firm’s quarterly Form 13F filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). While the total dollar value of the investment is modest, the move marks a key milestone as major Wall Street institutions gradually integrate a broader variety of digital asset products into their portfolios.

According to SEC documents, Morgan Stanley acquired shares in two distinct XRP-focused funds. The bank reported owning 1,700 shares of the Volatility Shares XRP ETF (XRPI) and 100 shares of the Grayscale XRP Trust ETF (GXRP). Together, the combined positions hold a market value of roughly $15,488.

The filing shows that Morgan Stanley opted to gain exposure indirectly through regulated investment vehicles rather than purchasing or storing physical tokens on-chain. This approach allows the bank to track XRP price movements while operating within standard regulatory and custodial frameworks.

Although the allocation is minor compared to Morgan Stanley’s multi-trillion-dollar asset base and its substantial multi-billion-dollar positions in Bitcoin funds, industry observers note that the entry signals widening institutional interest.

The bank’s disclosure coincided with steady capital inflows into spot XRP ETFs. Market data indicates that XRP-linked funds attracted significant net inflows during May 2026, driven by rising institutional demand.

Institutional adoption of digital asset ETFs has expanded rapidly following regulatory approvals for crypto-based funds. While initial institutional capital concentrated primarily on Bitcoin and Ethereum, financial firms have increasingly explored products tied to alternative digital assets like XRP.

Financial institutions have taken varied approaches to managing these emerging assets. For example, regulatory filings show that investment bank Goldman Sachs completely exited its XRP ETF allocations during the same quarter that Morgan Stanley established its initial positions.

Meanwhile, expanded corporate activity around the underlying technology including Ripple’s acquisition of prime brokerage services—has helped maintain Wall Street interest in XRP-related market infrastructure.

Morgan Stanley’s disclosure of XRP ETF shares highlights how major financial managers are testing regulated crypto products beyond top-tier assets. As regulatory rules clarify and more fund options become available, institutional holdings in crypto-linked ETFs are expected to remain a key indicator of Wall Street adoption.
