ARPA Network on EigenLayer: Enhanced Security, Availability and Scalability for a Robust Web3 Ecosystem

Estimated read time 4 min read

ARPA Network is thrilled to announce the launch of our EigenLayer-secured Actively Validated Service (AVS)! This marks a significant milestone in our mission to expand across multiple blockchains and solidify our commitment to a secure, inclusive, and dynamic #Web3 environment. The integration with #EigenLayer empowers #ARPA Network with enhanced security, availability, and scalability.

What are EigenLayer and AVS?

Built on #Ethereum, EigenLayer is a pioneering #protocol that introduces the concept of “#restaking” to bolster crypto-economic security. In essence, EigenLayer offers a suite of smart contracts enabling users to restake their existing #ETH holdings or liquid staking tokens (LST) to bootstrap new proof-of-stake (PoS) networks and services. Restakers earn additional rewards in return, currently recorded as points.

EigenLayer’s architecture comprises four key components:

  • Actively Validated Services (AVSs): ARPA’s BLS Threshold Signature Scheme (BLS-TSS) Network is a prime example of an AVS. This decentralized network leverages dynamic node groups to securely generate BLS threshold signatures. ARPA’s Randcast product, the first to utilize ARPA Network, provides secure and reliable random number generation across multiple blockchains. Other AVSs include data availability layers, shared sequencers, and more.
  • Restakers: Users who contribute their ETH or LST holdings to the network for rewards.
  • Operators: These entities run specialized node software and execute tasks for AVSs using the delegated restaked ETH or LST.
  • AVS Consumers: Typically decentralized applications (dApps) that request computation tasks from AVSs.

How Does EigenLayer Work?

Simply put, AVS consumers (dApps) request computations from AVSs, which in turn procure various services from operators. Operators, equipped with restaked ETH or LST from restakers, operate specialized node software to complete AVS tasks. This approach efficiently facilitates Ethereum’s “shared security” for a wider developer base.

Why EigenLayer for ARPA Network?

  • Boosted Security: ARPA Network already boasts robust security through its dynamic node group architecture, minimizing reliance on centralized entities. EigenLayer further strengthens this security by leveraging Ethereum’s shared security model. Additionally, the concept of “Dual Staking” – utilizing both native ARPA staking and ETH restaking – guarantees ARPA Network’s security, fostering a more dependable environment for ARPA Randcast users.
  • Improved Availability: With more nodes from EigenLayer, the number of available groups increases, enhancing the network’s fault tolerance. This translates to a higher probability of successful task execution, leading to superior service quality for users.
  • Enhanced Scalability: EigenLayer optimizes security resource allocation, allowing operators to efficiently secure multiple protocols simultaneously. By collaborating with additional operator partners within the EigenLayer ecosystem, ARPA Network gains improved scalability, stability, and sustainability. This strategic alliance empowers Randcast users with a broader service scope.

The Power of EigenLayer, ARPA Network, and Randcast

Randomness plays a vital role in the decentralized world, ensuring fairness in games, NFTs, blockchain consensus mechanisms, and more. With the strengthened foundation provided by EigenLayer, ARPA Network and Randcast are better positioned to empower builders across various fields, including:

  • Gaming: Randcast guarantees fair and random elements within games, like character attributes, item properties, matchmaking, and event outcomes.
  • NFTs: Tamper-proof randomness from Randcast is crucial for assigning rarity tiers in NFT series.
  • Blockchain Consensus: Developers can integrate Randcast into their blockchain’s consensus layer to add a secure random beacon.
  • Marketing & Community Campaigns: Leverage Randcast to conduct fair random giveaways with customizable weighting metrics for user engagement or token staking.
  • DAO Governance: Randcast can ensure fair random sampling for voting processes, accurately representing the opinions of a larger Web3 community.

Strong Partnerships Fuel Our Growth

The launch of ARPA Network AVS on EigenLayer is backed by the support of numerous top-tier operator partners. Collectively, these partners manage over 2 million ETH (approximately $7 billion) in restaked value from nearly 80,000 stakers. This collaboration positions us to significantly enhance the security, availability, and scalability of the ARPA ecosystem, deliver improved services to Randcast users, and empower a wider range of Web3 builders.

Looking Ahead

ARPA Network’s exploration and expansion across multiple ecosystems will continue. We remain dedicated to providing Web3 builders with robust and secure infrastructure, alongside standardized and modularized randomness functionalities. Stay tuned for exciting developments!
